Our Threat Protection team builds the capabilities that help Box administrators detect, investigate, and respond to potential threats across our platform.

We’re looking for a Software Engineer III to help design, build, and operate backend services that strengthen Box’s security offerings, with a focus on Anomaly Detection and Malware Detection. You’ll independently deliver well-scoped projects, collaborate across functions, and contribute to the reliability and scalability of systems that safeguard our customers’ content.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Design, build, test, and maintain reliable backend services and features for Threat Protection
  • Contribute to systems in anomaly detection, malware detection, and security alerting
  • Translate product and engineering requirements into clear technical tasks and milestones
  • Participate in technical design discussions, offering implementation ideas and tradeoff analysis
  • Write clean, well-tested code in languages such as Java, Scala, or C++
  • Support service health through troubleshooting, bug fixing, and operational ownership
  • Collaborate with Product, Security, and partner engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions
  • Participate in the team’s production on-call rotation and improve operational runbooks

WHO YOU ARE

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience
  • Proficiency in Java, Scala, C++, or another modern programming language
  • Experience building applications in cloud environments and with microservices/distributed systems
  • Ability to independently execute on well-defined projects and communicate progress clearly
  • Leverage AI to handle routine implementation while you focus on architecture adherence, precision in requirements, and rigorous validation
  • Strong collaboration skills with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional partners

Preferred

  • Interest in security domains (e.g., authentication, identity, threat detection) and industry best practices
  • Practical experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Kubernetes
  • Experience operating backend systems for reliability, scalability, and observability
