Senior Software Engineer, Care & Onboarding

The Care & Onboarding team builds and maintains the tools that enable the core workflows of our Customer Care Agents, Onboarding Consultants, and the broader Toast team. Our work directly impacts how Toast supports its restaurant customers at every stage of their journey.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join this team and help shape the future of how these teams operate. You will contribute to building a strong technical foundation that will carry Toast through the next decade and beyond. In this role, you will design, build, and own backend services and integrations that power internal workflows at scale. You will partner closely with product, design, and operations to translate complex business needs into reliable, maintainable systems, and you will help raise the bar for engineering quality through code reviews and mentorship.

A day in the life (Responsibilities)

• Design, build, and own backend services and APIs that power workflows for Customer Care Agents, Onboarding Consultants, and the broader Toast team
• Build and maintain integrations across internal and external platforms, including CRM and workflow automation tools
• Write automated tests and participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and system reliability
• Monitor feature rollouts, respond to incidents, and iterate based on performance data and customer feedback
• Partner with product, design, and cross-functional teams to define requirements and deliver on shared goals
• Leverage AI-augmented development tools to increase development velocity and code quality

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

• A minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 5+ years delivering production backend systems at scale
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or another object-oriented language
• Familiarity with API lifecycle management, including versioning, documentation, and deprecation
• Strong understanding of query languages, data modeling, and data distribution
• Experience working with microservices and event-driven architectures
• This is a hybrid role with 2 days per week in the Bengaluru office

What will help you stand out (Nice to Have)

• Hands-on experience building with LLMs in production environments
• Familiarity with Workato or a similar iPaaS platform
• Prior work with Salesforce or other CRM platforms
• Comfort working with React and GraphQL
